Building a healthy, strong, and resilient mind requires a different kind of gym. That's why we built Thought Gym.

Like exercising your body, your mental fitness can improve over time with consistent training and exercise. Based on the science of well-being, our classes and workouts are designed to help you think better, feel better and live better.

Because not everyone wants, needs, or has access to therapy

We're huge fans and proponents of traditional mental health services, but not everyone wants, needs or has access to therapy. At Thought Gym, you don’t need diagnosis or referral to start your mental fitness journey. We welcome anyone who wants to improve their mental and emotional well-being. Our mental fitness classes and workouts are designed to help you level up at any stage and grow into the person you want to be.

Being proactive means being a pro at being active

Unfortunately, too many of us wait until we reach a breaking point before getting help. When it comes to our mental well-being, it’s better to be proactive rather than reactive. But, change is hard. (Just try moving your trash bin to a different location for a week and see what happens.)  Your mental fitness won't improve simply by reading books and articles or downloading meditation apps. Real change requires action. Our trainer-led workouts are designed to help you build healthy, life-long mind habits.

Yeah, science! At Thought Gym, all of our classes and workouts are based on scientific research from positive psychology, the science of well-being and science of happiness. In addition to having a world-class team of experts on our advisory board, we've spent years integrating the latest scientific research and best practices into each class and workout. In addition, we are constantly measuring our effectiveness through scientific means.

We're huge fans and proponents of professional mental health services. However, because our mental fitness classes and workouts are considered coaching and training, NOT therapy, Thought Gym is not a substitute for therapy or counseling.  

So, how are we different? Coaching focuses on personal growth and development where therapy focuses on deeper issues such as anxiety, depression and trauma. Coaching also focuses on the present and future whereas traditional therapy focuses more on the past, present and future. 

Nope. We feel that the hassle of dealing with insurance companies and/or not having adequate insurance is one of main barriers that prevents people from taking charge of their mental wellness. Rather than creating financial barriers, we offer our services at a price point that most people can afford. No worries, we’ve got you covered. We are pleased to offer a limited number of no-pay spots for each of our classes so that anyone can participate without having to worry about finances. We kindly request that the no-pay spots are reserved for those who would not otherwise be able to participate. Follow the registration links on the EventBrite page to access the no-pay spots. Please note that these spots are first-come, first served.

This is totally in our wheelhouse. We’re psychologists, university professors, and Ph.Ds. Our team has several decades of combined experience helping people learn to thrive. But we’re also real. We’re fry sauce enthusiasts, Bigfoot conspiracists, and award-winning parallel parkers.

We’re honored to join other pioneers, warriors and visionaries who are changing broken and outdated models of mental health care. We feel that people should be celebrated and rewarded for taking charge of their mental well-being, rather than feeling stigmatized, embarrassed, and shamed.

Instead of allowing people to suffer in silence, let’s form hype squads to learn from one another and lift each other up. 

Instead of waiting for people to reach their boiling point and treating them like they are sick, let’s take a proactive and preventative approach to help people stay well.

Instead of making it time consuming, complicated and difficult to get help, let’s make mental health care barrier-free and accessible to all.

Our team has several decades of combined experience helping people learn to thrive. We are an eclectic mix of scientists, psychologists, business leaders, educators, techies and wizards. Basically a whole bunch of nerds in cool kids’ bodies.

Meet the Found(h)er

Thought Gym was founded by Dr. Cynthia Wong in 2020. Since receiving her Ed.D. from the University of Southern California in 2008, Dr. Wong helped hundreds of people thrive through her roles as an educational psychologist, university professor and human-centered designer. Cynthia is obsessed with tiny homes, 90 Day Fiancé, and crinkle cut fries.
